Atkins Teacher Terry Howerton Awarded for Presentation on Summer Fellowship
Terry Howerton, Teacher, Atkins Academic and Technology High School, Winston –Salem, NC and Dr. Deborah Overath, Professor, Texas Southmost College, both graduates of the NSF ATE Biosciences Industry Fellowship Program 2018, were recognized at the recent NSF ATE PI meeting celebrating its 25th anniversary. Forsyth Technical Community College through its National Center for the Biotechnology Workforce has been competitively selected to compete for the prestigious 2018 Bellwether Award at the upcoming Community College Futures Assembly. The selection was based on the work by C3BC- The CC Consortium for Bioscience Credentials, selected as one of the 10 Bellwether Finalist Winners in the WorkForce Development (WD) category. As a Bellwether Finalist Winner, the College will make a presentation on the Credentials at the Assembly on Monday, January 29, and the winner will be announced at a luncheon the following day. Biosciences Industry Fellowship Program(BIFP) - June 11-29 2018
The BIFP is sponsored by a NSF - ATE DUE Award #1304010. In its fifth year, it is a three week observational fellowship program where selected instructors will reside in Winston – Salem, North Carolina in the month of June 2018. During their stay, they will visit NC Biosciences industrial facilities, community colleges and university labs and research parks. Working in pairs, up to ten awardees will write about their experiences and produce presentations as grant products. The BIFP is open to interested instructors in good standing with their employers currently teaching at the high school, community college or university level. Travel expenses are paid and a competitive stipend is available for those who qualify.
